Proposed Mission Statement

Document Actions
Here's a strawman. Pick it apart.
Our mission is founded in the belief that our quality of life in the Hudson Mohawk region during the 21st century will be increasingly linked to the prevalence of:
  • sustainable critical infrastructure
  • regional self-sufficiency
  • civil liberties
  • true democratic process
With these as our goals we therefore dedicate ourselves to
  • supporting existing efforts and where necessary spawning new efforts that contribute to one or more of the goals
  • educating and advocating for ecologically sound methods, processes and technology
  • defending and protecting the fruits of our efforts in these regards

Might the mission be... to uphold the principles espoused in the Earth Charter (www.earthcharter.org I think.) It is all about sustainability, globally, starting ... right here right now, all of us... Sheree

I created a sentence which to me says what I feel our mission is. It is: To develop and maintain a fulfilling quality of life through sustainable and democratic efforts.

Mission statement

I compared this to the mission astatement that Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace used when submitting the application for incorporation. I think it may need to be a bit more specific. Such as:

1) To serve as an advocate for sustainable energy, regional self sufficiency, ecologically sound methods (etc.not sure what else you might want to add here.), by engaging in non-violent activism including the organization of public gatherings, participation in demonstrations, letter-writing campaigns, and other non-violentt forms of activism,

2) Identify issues that will promote a healthier planet, country and community and attempt to build a local, state and national consensus about these issues through the presentation of public information programs, and other non-violent activism.

3) Sponsor information programs and engage both governmental representatives and the public at large to further the democratic process and to encourage the active participation of informed citizens, especially in the capital Region and surrounding areas.

This is only a suggestion. I think this is a critical piece and clearly defining goals here will give us a focus to return to when we get sidetracked. Not that we would get sidetracked. Trudy
